The Adventure of Education

Education can be seen as a journey into an unknown and vast land – an adventure. This journey leads through the four developmental landscapes of becoming human. Along the way of this venture, twelve signposts can be found. They are essential pieces of equipment for the expedition of education.

Theory and Practice – A Unity

Our theoretical foundations lead directly into practical action, guided by the motto: The most practical thing is a good theory. Contrary to what is sometimes assumed, Existential Pedagogy is by no means overloaded with theory. Of course, it rests on a theoretical framework – otherwise there would be no helpful background structure – but these contents lead directly into practice, true to the saying: The most practical thing is a good theory.

Providing Support – Setting Limits (Challenges – Pedagogical Responses)

It is a misconception to think that the implementation of Existential Pedagogy requires a child’s cognitive participation, and that therefore it could not be applied with infants, toddlers, children with cognitive impairments, or very challenging adolescents. The opposite is true: precisely in highly demanding educational situations it proves especially effective, as illustrated by the example of Elisabethstift Berlin.
